Mr. Raghuram Rao is a 65 year old gentleman who has been with us since May 2016. He had presented us first time in May 2016 for a second opinion about his retina problem in his Right Eye & Dr Vivek advised him to take the treatment, but he could not follow up. At that time, his Left Eye vision was normal. Two and half years later, i.e., in November 2018, he presented himself with blurred vision in Left Eye. So he already had damage in the Right Eye, and now he comes with very poor vision in his Left Eye also. It was the same condition with a similar retinal problem as the Right Eye. And he was advised with the same treatment the same day. He was still working in November 2018, but because of the poor vision in both eyes, he had to quit the job & and his vision was relatively poor.
But since then, what changed was that he was regular with his follow-up and treatment. So whenever the doctor suggested follow-up and his treatment, he presented himself to us promptly, and whatever treatment the doctor suggested, he would take it. So over the last three years and five months, he had been on treatment & he steadily improved from around 25% to 85-90% vision in the Left Eye today as of the first week of Mar 2022. And this has happened because he has been very prompt with the treatment, and he trusted the process thoroughly. Of course, he was anxious, disappointed, and kind of depressed in the beginning. But as he started seeing the small science of improvement, he persisted, and he was very positive in his whole approach. Without asking the doctor, he returned to tell us what he felt better since the last visit. Like in the first visit, he was not able to see his wall clock then when he could see the edges of the wall clock and could see the digits on the outside margin but still could not see the handles and then gradually down the line after 2-3 months, he could see the handles as well but could make out the time. Then he started saying that he still could not make out the faces but could probably see the face’s shape.
Every time he visited, he came up with some improvement that he noticed which was evident in his daily life. And today, when he came last week, he told us that he had bought a new camera and has taken photographs of small birds along with his friend, who also visits occasionally & accompany him. So he and his friends visited the forest with the new camera in hand and took extraordinary photographs. Although, as we know, I have been a bird watcher, interested in forest and other things, how difficult it is to spot a small bird in a dense forest area. Spotting a bird is so tricky that taking a good photograph is even more challenging.
That is why this story becomes essential, and take away from this story is that things can work out even with retinal problems. Still, one has to have a very positive frame of mind, be regular with the follow-ups and treatments, and trust the doctor and the process. That is when whatever best possible might happen and the patient workout as such.
