Dr. Y. L. Rajashekar is the Medical Director and Founder of Shekar Eye Hospital. He is a renowned ophthalmic surgeon and a postgraduate (MD) of the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, with a top rank.

Qualifications

After completing an MBBS from Bangalore Medical College, he was selected by AIIMS for postgraduate studies in ophthalmology. He passed his MD in ophthalmology in 1993, securing the first rank in the institution. He also got an additional DNB (Diplomate of National Board) degree in ophthalmology. He has further specialised in vitreoretinal and laser procedures.

Experience

He has been serving in the field of ophthalmology for over a decade and has performed over 30,000 eye operations. Dr. Rajashekar possesses sterli
ng credentials in his profession. He has presented technical papers and demonstrated new microsurgical and laser procedures in various ophthalmic forums.

He has also authored several textbooks on ophthalmology for medical courses. Being a passionate educator, he has given a number of presentations in ocular care for the medical community, in addition to popular TV, radio, and on-stage programmes for the mass audience. He has conducted many eye camps and eye education programmes.

Participation

Dr. Rajashekar is an International Member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, a Life Member of All India, Karnataka, and Delhi Ophthalmological Societies, and a member of the National Academy of Medical Sciences (India).

Recognition

Dr. Rajashekar received the Aryabhata Award in 2005 for rendering yeomen service in the medical field. Some of his other awards are the Kempegowda Award, the Karnataka Vibhushan Award, the Karnataka Padmashree Award, the Award by BDA Housing Corporation, the Subha Chinthana Award, and the Kautilya Global Indian Award by the Chanakya Foundation.
