The word cataract is derived in middle ages, from the Greek word “katarraktes” which means waterfall. Cataract is any opacity in natural crystalline lens or its capsule inside our eye.
There is a natural lens inside the eye, sitting behind the iris (the coloured area cantered in the pupil of the eye) and cataracts involve changes in clarity of that lens.
Cataract is one of the most common causes of blurred vision. Standard treatment for this being surgical removal of lens and implanting an intraocular lens.
Corneal transplantation, also known as corneal grafting, is a surgical procedure where a damaged or diseased cornea is replaced by healthy donated corneal tissue (the graft).
